Long hairs and "flower power" clothes attracted lot of young people. Flowers were the tickets for their concerts. In 1967 and 1968 Drago Mlinarec (vocal and guitar) composed music for two films "Protest" and "Tri sata ljubavi" - both films were directed by Fadil Hadžić. Grupa 220 also appears in the film "Tri sata ljubavi". They take part in Zagreb 68 and Split 68 festivals, and also first pop festival in Zagreb. Here is cd remaster of all singles beetween 1967 and 1971.
The band Grupa 220 (Group 220) was formed in 1966 with members of bands Ehosi and Jutarnje Zvijezde (Morning Stars). They had their first gig in october the same year. In december they record their first song "Osmijeh" which becomes a big hit right away. Very soon they become one of the most popular bands in former Yugoslavia. Let's here the 7inch "Osmijeh".
Sanjalice (Dreamers) were one of, probably not many, girl bands in Yugoslavia. Actually I've heard about only 2 more: Lutke and Sigele. And Sanjalice are probably the only girl band that released a record in Yugoslavia at that time. Unfortunately. I know that Slobodanka Miščević (guitar) was the best student in her class and Ljiljana Jeftić (bass) was only 15 years old. Ok their records are not that wild, but "Bez reči" is one the best girl 60s punk songs I heard. I also love their version of "Happy Together". I heard they were really great band to see live and probably they were wilder than on their records.
Belgrade band Divlji Anđeli was formed in 1982 by Nebojša Savić Boca (vocal, guitar), Dragan Đorđević Joe (vocal, guitar), Dejan Lalević (bass) i Miroslav Lekić Šiki (drums). Debut album "Divlji anđeli" they released for PGP RTB on 14th of May same year. Album produced Saša Habić and had one of the biggest hit that year "Voli te tvoja zver". All songs are available on blog.
Vatreni Poljubac second double album "Recept za rock 'n' roll" is presented on blog today. Album was recorded in August 1979 in PGP RTB Studio in Belgrade and was produced by band and Rade Ercegovac. Band members were: Milić Vukašinović (vocal, guitar), Šefćet Hodža (bass) and Perica Stojanović (drums).
In 1966 they are going as young chess players to England with their big fan Nikola - as chess players they didn't have many problems to get visa's for U.K. There they play few gigs - mixing famous beat and Yugoslav folk covers. Here is their second single "Humoreska".
In the beginning they played on parties. Beat music was taboo in early 60s for many radio programs. So, they made beat covers of 4 classical music parts just to be played on radio. Their friend and big fan - Nikola Karaklajic brought those recordings to Holland. Fontana put it out as 7"EP of Golden Boys. Next year the same record comes out in Yugoslavia. Very soon they become popular and their next single is sold out in 100000 copies. Two singles from 1966 are available on blog today, "Humoreska" and "Čudna devojka".
Debut Psihomodo Pop's album "Godina zmaja" produced by Piko Stančić was released in 1988 for Jugoton. Album was by far best album that year released in Yugoslavia including T Rex and Ramones covers and big hits "Ja volim samo sebe", "Frida", "Kad sam imao 16" and "Ramona".
The basis of the band was formed in 1977, when singer and occasional guitarist Darko Rundek met bassist Srđan Sacher. Two years later they formed Haustor, together with Boris Lajner (drums) and Ozren Stiglić (guitar). Third album "Bolero" which is available today on blog was released on 19 of September in 1985 and recorded frod December '84 till June '85 in SIM studio. Album was produced by Mitar Subotić & Dragan Čaćinovic.
Band Ulica Od Meseca and their debut and only album "Ulica od meseca" was released on 25 of March in 1987 for PGP RTB. Album was recorded in studio Aquarius in Belgrade and produced by Kornelije Kovač. All songs are available on blog.
Generacija 5 debut album was recorded in PGP RTB studio from February till May same year. Album was mixed in "Sinus Studio Bern" in Switzerland and was one of the best debut albums in Yugoslavia that year. Album produced three big hits "Dolazim za pet minuta", "Ti i ja" i "Pseto". Group members were: Goran Milošević (vocal), Dragan Ilić (keyboard, vocal), Dragan Jovanović (guitar), Dušan Petrović (bass) and Boban Đorđević (drums).
Pop Mašina was an influential band in ex Yugoslavia and one of the pioneers of heavy, "acid-rock". Their music was similar to classic heavy blues-rock giants such as Black Sabbath, Cream or Led Zeppelin, joining early 1970s heavy metal roots with post-hippie psychedelic ballads. Here is their debut album Kiselina.
Group Metak from Split was formed in 1978. On 19th of November 1979 they released first album "U tetrapaku". Album was recorded in studio "Tetrapak" in Split and mastered by Julian Mills in Strawberry Mastering Studio in London, UK. Band members were: Željko Brodarić Jappa (vocal, guitar), Zlatko Brodarić (guitar), Marko Krstičević (bass, piano), Doris Tomić (keyboard) and Matko Jelavić (drums).
Drago Mlinarec's first four albums ("A ti se ne daj", "Pjesme s planine", "Rođenje" and "Negdje postoji netko") are usually regarded to be the best; there he explored diverse musical interests, crossing over between acid-tinged jam proto-prog rock with long compositions featuring guitar, organ and flute solos, and more mellow acoustic and electric folk rock with progressive and sometimes psychedelic or "classical" feeling. Here is second album Pjesme s planine recorded with Nenad Zubak (bass), Srećko Zubak (keyboards), Jadranko Budić (guitar, vocal) and Ivan Stančić (drums).
Roboti (The Robots) started in 1963. Till 1965 they are more famous in Austria than in Yugoslavia. They play very often in Vienna in clubs and on Beat Festivals (there they were only foreign band among 150 Austrian bands). In 1966 they play on famous Beat Festival in Zagreb. They also play on First Beat Meeting Italy-Yugoslavia. All those years they have problems to find their own style. They play raw rhythm and blues songs but also pop numbers. In 1965 they have big hit with Drafiy Deutscher's cover 'Mramor, kamen i zeljezo'. But in 1966 they have first member changing - Ivica Percl (vocal and rhythm guitar) leaves the band and goes solo as singer-songwriter. He was influenced by Bob Dylan and Donovan and in late 60s and early 70s he had quite successful solo career. The rest of the band finally makes cut and goes further as pure rhythm and blues band with organ/sax player instead of rhythm guitarist. They spent 1966 touring Italy and playing in Piper Club in Rome. Because there were already two bands with the same name in Italy - they changed the name into Five Up. After they spent half year and more playing in Italy - Roboti came back to Yugoslavia. Readers of popular music magazine Dzuboks (Jukebox) choose Roboti for the best band of 1966 and they record their first 7". In 1967 and 1968 they tour Yugoslavia and Italy again and they play on International Pop Festival in Rome together with Pink Floyd, Ten Years After, Traffic and others. Trying to reach more international glory they are moving to Germany 1968. There they played in many clubs. This period was very difficult for band and very disappointed they came back to Zagreb 1969. That's the end of Roboti. Few members go further as The Wheels of Fire. There are rumours that Roboti met and played together with Jimi Hendrix in some club in Germany. Jimi came there as guest, joined and had small session with Roboti. They also played together with Little Richard. In early 70s Roboti have reunion. They made one more 7" and after that they finally split up. Here is their first single released in 1967.
